Eri King & Daniel Greer
July 10 – August 2, 2025

Double Infinity paired the individual and collaborative paintings of Eri King and Daniel Greer, tracing where illusion, chance, and pattern dissolved into shared authorship.
Illusion and desire intertwined in Eri King and Daniel Greer’s Double Infinity. The artists transcended and upended the binary in this nuanced exhibition, which featured works created by the artists individually as well as made in collaboration by the artists under the moniker ‘Eridan.’ Works such as “not one, not two” subverted expectations, forming, “a cheeky paradox that cannot be resolved with logic but suggests [that] the creative act is a form of transcendence in itself,” according to exhibiting artist Daniel Greer. Pop culture collided with the ineffable in these paintings: where Greer’s works embraced abstraction and Op Art, perhaps pointing beyond the picture plane toward something inexpressible, King’s paintings on canvas and wood panel offered recognizable moments that pointed to chance, constructed environments, and mythic themes. Camouflaged Cupids, mahjong tiles, and cascading playing cards permeated King’s paintings, forming montages that were simultaneously disorienting, subversive, and introspective. Where pattern is anticipated to form a repetitive and reliable frame of reference, King and Greer complicated this assumption, playing with perception and expectation in equal measure.
Greer’s “Dual Oscillator” presented two patterned neon circles coalescing into a central, oblong shape; it was impossible to point to exactly where these lines dissolved or collided. Similarly, in “heaven or las vegas,” King’s embrace of boldly patterned motifs formed a disorienting close-up view of patterns such as those found in Las Vegas casino carpets. These divergent approaches to pop culture managed to dissect art history and kitsch. Works seemed to present static moments frozen in time and complicated by painterly approaches to brushstroke and color theory. Artist Eri King noted, “elements of game theory, art history and mythology are embedded within the works.” Allusions to systems of thought in these artworks cleverly pointed toward the ways in which we cannot help but be guided in our experiences of these artworks, albeit through a personalized lens.
