Intermingling: Timon I solo exhibition at VillageOneArt took place from July 25 through September 7, 2024, delighting the visitor with compositions that embraced natural and urban environments mediated through a neo-Cubist perspective. Uniquely nonlinear yet representational, Timon I presented scenes simultaneously familiar yet multi-perspectival, enchanting the viewer with mysterious yet implied narratives.
In works such as Inside Out and Endless Swirl, the artist embraced multi-dimensional spatial dynamics to mingle the natural world with the linear, two-dimensional space of the composition, thereby creating new visual dialogues through careful color contrasts and lingering, lush linework. The artist spun dreamworlds out from the known to the unknown, forming speculative narrative frameworks. In some scenes, a city was surrounded by flowers reflected in a water puddle, while in others, suspended floating spheres of jewel-toned orbs of light rose above a harbor.
Where Timon I drew from elements of natural beauty to entice the viewer, the artist’s keen observational skills were indicated in the various vignettes spanning cleverly formatted picture planes that alternated from narrow vertical to slim horizontal compositions. New works by the artist on view in this solo presentation benefited from the careful overlap of fantasy with reality, gritty urban scenes with expansive landscapes. The artist delighted in contradictions, offering surprising elements for the viewer to consider and providing an alternative method of exploring that which we find in our everyday lives in clever and unparalleled ways.
