Kelly Wang with her work Brush Rest
We are pleased to announce that our collaborative artist Kelly Wang featured in The 15th of Asia Week New York. Wang redefining the material practices of Ink art and her work Brush Rest exhibited in “New Material Practices in INK Art“ at INKstudio on March 14-22, 2024.
Kelly Wang (b.1992) is an intercultural and multidisciplinary artist whose work unfolds the potential of paper. Growing up in a family with a history of collecting and connoisseurship, Kelly Wang has been exposed to Chinese painting since early childhood and started using the materials of ink and xuan paper in 2010. As an intercultural artist, Wang combines post-industrial and ancient materials to create abstract work infused with elements of traditional landscape painting. In her series “Between Contexts” (2019), Wang explored the meanings behind Chinese characters by arranging them in ways that eliminate the original meaning of the text they are taken from.
Wang’s paintings have been published in Princeton’s Art & Archaeology Newsletter, Fall 2018. Her work is included in numerous private collections and was acquired by Princeton University Art Museum in 2018
