Yuan Fang published her solo show at Long Museum (West Bund) until March 24 this year. Curated by Yang Jian, the exhibition showcases over 20 paintings, some of which are meticulously crafted on paper by the artist herself.
According to Yang, the curator, Fang’s work underscores the inseparable link between form and experience, offering viewers a unique glimpse into the extraordinary beyond the universe through body, landscape, space-time, and symbols.
Born in Shenzhen in 1996, Fang’s upbringing in the vibrant economic hub shaped her global perspective on Western culture and values. However, her relocation to New York at eighteen prompted a reevaluation of her cultural identity in the racially diverse metropolis. Drawing inspiration from her life experiences, Fang believes that the horizontal and vertical movements in her paintings symbolize the essence of life, evoking powerful emotions as time and space intertwine.
