Our esteemed collaborative artist, Zhen Guo, is exhibiting her work in her latest exhibition Zhen Guo: Chroma Comes from the Margins at the Derfner Judaica Museum, a historic cultural and educational center celebrating Jewish culture. The exhibition will present her most recent large-scale ink paintings and a seven-minute short film by Zhen Guo.

Zhen Guo is a Chinese-American artist and curator born in China and attended Shandong Art School before graduating from the China Academy of Art in 1982. Guo was one of the first art explorers following China’s reform. She attended San Francisco Art College in 1986 and was a visiting scholar at York University’s School of Art in Canada in 1987. In 1988, she opened the Zhen Guo Art Studio in New York.

Guo’s recent paintings are an evolution of her earlier series of black and white semi-abstract landscapes titled “Muted Landscape,” which she began in 2016, and centers around the oppression of women and nature and the experience of being silenced and erased. Guo uses ink and watercolor to express feminity and natural landscapes.

The exhibition is currently on display from September 10th through January 21st, and a reception and an Artist’s Talk with Guo will take place on October 15th, 1:30-3:00 p.m.
