Deng Xiao’s works blend the artistic styles of neoclassicism and surrealism, combining different artistic styles in the paintings to create new meanings and creativity. This fusion allows for the interplay of traditional and modern, objective and irrational elements. It can challenge traditional notions, break the boundaries of art, and create captivating and thought-provoking works.
This combination can also evoke new experiences and feelings in terms of aesthetics. By merging classical aesthetics with surrealistic fantasies, Deng Xiao can create astonishing, contradictory, and ambiguous works that stimulate viewers’ imagination and reflection. It is also a reassessment of traditional aesthetics, as the artist challenges the audience’s understanding of beauty through conceptual creation, prompting a reconsideration of art and aesthetics.
Deng Xiao (b. 1986) lives and works in Shenyang, China. He earned his BFA from the College of Fine Arts, Jilin Normal University (2009) and his MFA in Oil Painting from the Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts (2012), the same year he debuted with a solo exhibition at Ba Da Gallery, Beijing. He is exclusively represented in the United States by VillageOneArt, New York.
In 2024, VillageOneArt presented Festivity, Deng Xiao’s first solo exhibition with the gallery. In 2025, the gallery presented One Hundred Years of Solitude, his second solo exhibition with the gallery.
