Be it the past or a speculative future, Asian Art Contemporary described Intermingling as a world teetering between the stability of nature and the disruptive presence of mankind, its sense of time and place shifting even within a single canvas.

In September 2024, Asian Art Contemporary published a review of Intermingling, the solo exhibition by Minnesota-born, Hong Kong-raised, Brooklyn-based oil painter Timon I. The review framed the show as tracing the story of a world caught between the forces of nature and the encroaching presence of industrialized humankind.

The writer highlighted Timon I’s surreal, near-omniscient compositions, in which time, place, and perspective continually shift — not only from one painting to the next, but often within a single canvas. Intermingling was on view at VillageOneArt Gallery in Chelsea from July 25 through September 7, 2024. The review connected the artist’s vision to the gallery’s own, framing the exhibition as an invitation to look more closely at the balance between nature and industrialization.
