Double Trouble at VillageOneArt presented a dazzling group exhibition capturing the energy of the New York City art scene. The group show opened on Tuesday, August 2, at VillageOneArt and featured artists Leonard Baby, Alayna Coverly, Chukwuemeka Anthony Chukwu, Sophia Chizuco, Mary DeVincentis, Scott Daniel Ellison, Ilana Eshel, Mario Estrada, Catherine Falco, Kate Finneran, Amelia Ford, Anna Gryglak, Caroline Gates, James Gortner, Hwichan Ko, Kirstin Lamb, Nianxin Li, Xianglong Li, Silvia Muleo, Yigal Ozeri, Salome Rigvava, Xiangni Song, Pedro Troncoso, Christine Tudor, Feyzi Kutay Tufekci, Bona V, Tong Wang, and Xinyu Wo. Works on view offered whimsical takes on portraiture, abstraction, surface texture, bold colors, and complex narratives. Many of the works were subversive, offering the viewer saccharine cotton-candy tones that cast a Pop Art lens onto subject matter both potent and powerful. The range of compositions reflected in these sculptures, paintings, and mixed-media works offered something for everyone, while giving visitors a foray into the exuberant world of rising artist stars based in New York City and beyond.

Figurative and representational works on view compelled the viewer to consider the way in which the world is viewed in our current moment, while bright neon tones, bold jeweled hues, and a contrast of flat and textured surfaces created a visual kaleidoscope for those treated to the group exhibition Double Trouble. On view for one month only, the exhibition offered a compelling vision of the myriad futures being contemplated by contemporary artists.

Double Trouble was on view at VillageOneArt, 150 West 25th Street, Suite 403, New York, from August 2 to September 3, 2022. Curated by Christy Dandan Qin. For inquiries regarding available works, please contact info@villageoneart.com.
