In the Mood for Love featured some of the most compelling women artists working across disciplines today, reflecting on a broad and informed approach to artistic practice as a means to further uncovering the mysteries surrounding us.

In the Mood For Love, the much-anticipated annual exhibition of women artists at VillageOneArt, presented a collection of contemporary women artists whose work points to the poise and power of women artists working today. Works on view pointed to the trends and innovative approaches to art-making and subject matter of these significant women artists, with practices spanning painting, mixed media, sculpture, and photography. Enlivening and incisive in equal measure, In the Mood for Love treated visitors to a range of perspectives emphasizing the indomitable presence women continue to exert in contemporary art.

From Chunqing Huang’s detailed views of the human form and evocative, mysterious street photography, to Danyang Song’s quixotic yet still anthropomorphic clay artworks and Yanzi Zhang’s haunting gauze, ink, and cinnabar installations, In the Mood For Love captured a wide range of groundbreaking artists pushing the limits of their artforms. Xinyu Wo and Yangyang Wei’s works both depict a studied and polished merger of fantasy and reality, with compositions that transport the viewer to majestic reveries. Min Luo and Leru Chen offer a dazzling contemporary take on the genre of still life painting, while Alexandra Evans and Yu Cheng create paintings that offer a heightened sense of desire and deftly communicate form and emotion. Where Jingyu Xu’s fiber artworks capture sinuous abstracted forms that seem to spring directly to life from the artist’s imagination, Min Huang’s fascinating paintings transport the viewer to a sense of history embedded within human consciousness on the picture plane.

Where In the Mood For Love found its voice was in the powerful blend of viewpoints it showcased, making the case that the best way to experience work by women is in its many richly comprehensive and kaleidoscopic scope of work made by women working to drive art forward.
